A custom-built animation tool for broadcast.
Draw a Toon is Cartoon Network’s Annual Drawing Competition. The competition invites children to submit drawings of their favourite Cartoon Network characters, with the winners being broadcast on the channel.
We helped Cartoon Network to extend the concept online, with a custom built animation tool that allows kids to draw and animate online, saving their handiwork for all to see in the gallery and output ready for broadcast use by the channel.
By creating a simple to use but equally powerful animation tool, we were able to massively increase audience participation and engagement, with an increase of 100% on previous years competition entries. The resulting animations are then output to broadcast format and shown in the ad breaks throughout the competition period.
The competition was the most successful ever run in Cartoon Network’s history, with 44,000 animation entries made in just 6 weeks, more than doubling the previous years entries and blitzing all previous session times – a combined total of over 610 days in session times alone (14,700 hours in 6 weeks!).
